Cornstalk 08 was a huge success! We want to thank everyone who made this possible, especially the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council who granted us $2500 from funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature and the McKnight Foundation. The line-up of entertainers was exceptional. The opening ceremony with Jasmine, the world champion Native American Hoop Dancer, was not only a beautiful visual performance, but also educational as she explained the history of Hoop dancing and that the Native American teachings say there are only 2 kinds of people in the world – male and female.
Friday night continued with great music, belly dancing, fire twirling and good eats! The fun continued on Saturday starting with a great pancake breakfast put on by the Sherburn Lions Club and the second stage entertained the morning attendees. The afternoon main-stage music highlighted an up and coming singer-songwriter Nahko and his drummer/commedian Sky from the big island Hawaii. The energy and lyrics of this performance left us all thinking about the environment, unity and peace. Judi Poulson added to this with a speech entitled "Unselfish Peace." This really was something to think about and gave us motivation to be more conscious of our use of energy and global diplomacy.
Our friend Fabulous Johnny Zee, coming all the way from London Onatrio, debuted his new CD, Broken Bridge which has my favorite song on it entitled Now Is The Time! At the last minute, our headliner band for Saturday night, Fiel, was unable to make the trip from Galveston Texas. It turned out fine as Doc J and the Smith Brothers have another Funk band going called Conway and Co. They really put on a show and invited Nahko and Sky to participate which turned out to be a set that made the crowd want to dance all night! A big thanks to these guys that helped us out and made some magic happen!
So as we speak we are working on Cornstalk 09. It will be on July 31st (Friday, 6pm-1am) and August 1st (noon-1am). So you can look forward to another spectacular line-up of arts and entertainment. If you are interested in participating on any level, contact us after January 15th and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Financing is always an issue and we are hoping for another grant to come our way but we are also looking for sponsors and would like to find these sponsors early so we could give them recognition on all our advertising. Sponsors, please feel free to contact us at cornw@bevcomm.net or heidi@cornwoman.com. Again, thanks to everyone who helped out and attended Cornstalk 08. Without you all, this wonderful event could not happen!
Peace and Corn Love!!!
